VP20RT, a New Insert Grade for the APX3000 Multi-Functional Cutter Series

Mitsubishi Materials Corporation has recently developed and manufactured a new insert grade, VP20RT, for the series of indexable milling cutters. This new range of inserts will start to be sold by Mitsubishi Materials Tools Corporation (President: Osamu Takata, Headquarters: 1-6-1 Yokoami, Sumida-ku, Tokyo). The innovative end mill series, launched in October 2004, originally designed to achieve a high level of the three main factors necessary for efficient machining—low cutting resistance, high fracture resistance and long tool life, has so far been successful in the market. The range of inserts for the APX3000 has now been expanded with a new MIRACLE coated grade, VP20RT, that offers long tool life for milling of stainless steels and other materials that tend to work harden when machined.

Key features of VP20RT coated inserts for the APX3000 are as follows.

Use of a specially developed cemented carbide substrate that provides superior resistance to fracture and thermal cracking. Highly rigid steel shank and a lightweight head configuration designed by computer simulation analysis reduces chatter due to deflection and improves the vibration damping properties.
